The Detroit Lions announced on Friday that they are waiving tight end Michael Roberts after he was reverted back to their roster. According to The Boston Globe, Roberts, who's faced multiple injuries over his young career, failed a physical.

Basically, New England's trade for Roberts was voided and the Patriots get to keep the draft pick they sent to the Lions, which was reportedly a 2020 seventh-round pick.

"Obviously with the tight end position, we have good competition in the room right now", Lions head coach Matt Patricia said on Thursday.

Roberts, a fourth-round pick in 2017, caught just nine passes for 100 yards past year, but three of them were touchdowns.

The Patriots have been searching for tight ends after Rob Gronkowski retired in the offseason. Watson will miss the first four games of the season due to an National Football League suspension.
