Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt will battle to become the new leader of the Conservative party and the next prime minister as the Tory leadership contes

The frontrunner in the race to be the next British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was dealing with the wrong kind of headlines on Saturday as a loud and noisy bust-up with his girlfriend in London was reported to the police.

"The Guardian" reported that a neighbour had told the newspaper they heard a woman screaming followed by "slamming and banging" during the alleged altercation.

She then was reportedly heard yelling that Johnson, nicknamed BoJo, had ruined a sofa by spilling red wine onto it.

Conservative MP Dominic Grieve told BBC Radio 4's 'Today' programme he could not comment on The Guardian's report specifically but said character was relevant in the contest to be leader of the party.

The former attorney-general added: "Clearly, things like reliability and honesty are very important things".

He said: "I think the issue of any candidate's character, standing for the leadership of a party, and aiming to be a Prime Minister is going to be relevant".

"If we got to the 31st of October, and the European Union have not shown the willingess to negotiate a better deal. then my judgment is that weighing those hard options up, the political risk of no Brexit is far worse than the economic risk of no deal", Hunt said at a leadership hustings event in Birmingham, central England.

"It's not just of immediate importance, it bears on the way the country might be run from 10 Downing Street at such a critical point in the country's history". "You have to have equilibrium, a clear head, a stability in your life to be able to cope with that".

But Daily Telegraph journalist Allison Pearson asked: "What right do we have to listen in to a private lovers' tiff?"

He compiled a 192-220 record as head coach of the New York Knicks (1987-89) and Boston Celtics (1997-2001). With the Celtics, Pitino also was handed personnel control and the title of team president.

He now faces the wider 160,000-strong Tory membership in hustings to convince them of his credentials over Jeremy Hunt.

Hunt said Tory members would begin receiving voting slips on July 5, but Johnson has only committed to a televised debate on July 9, meaning potentially large numbers of members will already have posted their votes before they see the two candidates in action.

"The caller was concerned for the welfare of a female neighbour", the police said in a statement on Friday evening. "Police attended and spoke to all occupants of the address, who were all safe and well", cops said in a statement.

A neighbor called the police emergency number as the argument escalated.

Johnson is the runaway favorite to beat British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt, but would face questions over the incident when he and Hunt start a month-long nationwide tour to win over the grassroots Conservatives, who have the final say.

Symonds, 31, a former Conservative Party press chief, has been living at the flat with Johnson, 55, the former foreign secretary, since he split from his wife Marina a year ago.

Mr Johnson came top in a ballot of Tory MPs on Thursday.

The Saturday "hustings" was the first of more than a dozen such party meetings set to take place across Britain in coming days.
