Tanushree Dutta reacts on Mumbai Police’s statement on Nana Patekar

The sexual harassment case against Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, which was filed by actor Tanushree Dutta, has been closed.

While the magistrate is yet to take the report on record, Dutta is free to file her objections.

It triggered a belated #MeToo movement in India, which saw women share accounts of alleged harassment by several powerful men in the worlds of Bollywood, business, journalism, politics, comedy and even cricket. A complaint was later lodged at Goregaon police station against the party workers. She claimed that he assaulted her on the of Horn Ok Pleassss in March 2008.

Well, as Nana has got an official clean chit from the police, let's see how Tanushree reacts to it. According to her, she was told "Patekar would only have one line in the song, which they would shoot separately". Also, she was informed about all changes made to the item number, the cops stated. This means that they did not find enough evidence to prosecute Patekar.

Ms. Dutta, whose complaint against Mr. Patekar in October previous year sparked a nationwide '#MeToo' movement on social media, expressed disappointment over the "clean chit" to him and called the police and the legal system "corrupt". Later the shoot was called off.

He also alleged that the police acted "negligently" to protect Patekar.

Dutta's lawyer, Nitin Satpute further said, "We haven't yet received any official communication from the police yet".

Dutta said that her witnesses were silenced through intimidation and fake witnesses were produced to weaken the case. She said, "What was the rush to file a B summary report when all of my witnesses have not even recorded their statements yet??"

She added, "I'm neither shocked nor surprised being a woman in India. We can oppose it in court, and after hearing, if the court is satisfied then again it can again direct police to reinvestigate or investigate further". However, Tanushree had claimed back then that the reports were false. Also, if any future date were to be fixed for shooting with the actress, another Rs10 lakh with service tax was to be payable as per the pact. Nana denied all the allegations.

The "B Summary" report will absolve Mr. Acharya, Mr. Siddiqui and Mr. Sarang too of the charges.

Tanushree's reference to Nana Patekar sending goons to harass her was corroborated by a journalist who reportedly witnessed the incident 10 years ago.

She said despite a 10-year-old video of her being attacked in full public view, justice was not being delivered. Talking about Nana, she said that everyone in the industry knows about his indecent behaviour towards the actresses, but all are tight-lipped.
