Medvedev beats Raonic to reach semifinals in Brisbane

Sixth-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic has less trouble, beating France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (1) in a match that featured only one break of serve.

Raonic, runner-up in 2018, has returned to action at this tournament having withdrawn from the French Open due to his failure to overcome a knee injury sustained at the Miami Open in late March. Fucsovics wasted two set points in the second set and three match points in the third before ultimately clinching both.

Milos Raonic, the runner-up in Stuttgart past year, will face Hungary's Marton Fucsovics in the quarter-finals.

Qualifier Brown will now face Felix Auger-Aliassime, a 7-5 6-4 victor in the final match of the day against Gilles Simon.

The 52nd-ranked Fucsovics upset No. 4 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-5 on Wednesday.

Fernando Verdasco was another seed who was second best, Adrian Mannarino rallying from a set down to win 1-6 6-3 6-4 and advance along with David Goffin and Cristian Garin.

Basilashvili had a colossal chance to seal the deal on the return in game ten, wasting three match points and getting broken in the next game before Marton stole the victory with a hold at 15 for a 7-5 and the place in the quarters.

Pouille took control in the third set to battle past Medvedev and set up a quarter-final meeting with local favourite Jan-Lennard Struff who cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic.
