Pres. Trump refutes claim Sen. Harris won debate

Kamala Harris Takes on Joe Biden over Working with Segregationists and His Opposition to Busing

At the center of the heated exchange between Sen.

President Trump is weighing in on the analysis of the Democratic National Debate, contesting an assertion that Senator Kamala Harris was the big victor.

Here's what you need to know about the issue. At one point, in one of her best lines of the night, she called for an end to the crosstalk, saying, "America does not want a food fight, they want to know how we are going to put food on the table".

The first Democratic primary debates are in the books, and the field of candidates is so vast that NBC needed two full primetime slots to fit all 20 candidates on a stage in Miami. Biden's polling strength depends upon African American voters, the same voters Harris needs to prevail in the pivotal SC contest.

Supporters of busing argued that the practice was necessary to effectively integrate schools - and help correct the damaging legacy of school segregation.

Of course, free community college won't "cut in half the cost of college", but instead merely fob the bill off on taxpayers, who should also, the candidates agreed, provide healthcare to illegal aliens, who in turn should not be deported unless they are "criminals". In Milliken v. Bradley, the court struck down a plan to desegregate Detroit public schools by having white children, who lived in the suburbs, integrated into inner-city schools.

In 1974, the Supreme Court weighed in on busing and "white flight", which saw white families abandon the cities for the suburbs.

In fact, busing was hugely controversial and not all opposition was motivated by wanting racial segregation. A user named Ali Alexander accused Kamala Harris, who was born to a father from Jamaica and a mother from India, of not being an "American Black".

"The discussion in this race shouldn't be about the past", he said. His halting, fumbling responses to entirely predictable criticisms is surely forcing many Democrat primary voters to reconsider their support for the party's supposed frontrunner.

When questioned did the colour of the jersey mattered, he replied, "We bleed blue, right". All host teams have been under similar pressure in the history of the cup.

Why are we talking about busing now?

She blasted him for recently highlighting his work with segregationist senators and his past opposition to busing.

Harris is the only African American woman to qualify for the presidential debate stage and showed she could land a forceful attack on rivals. During a fundraising event in New York, Biden pointed to his work with Mississippi Sen. James Eastland of MS and Herman Talmadge of Georgia as examples of how he could work with people despite disagreeing with them.

Biden, for his part, fended off digs at his generational disconnect as a 76-year-old and deflected challenges to his self-portrayal as a civil-rights champion.

"I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland".

She said Mr Biden's experience working alongside Mr Obama is a big reason she may support him in 2020: "I love that".

"At least there was some civility".

We have got to pass a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system. "We didn't agree on much of anything". That's why we should be in a position where we do not have anyone have to pay back a student debt when they get out if they are making less than $25,000 a year.

It will also be interesting whether the candidates who did well during the Wednesday night debate wind up overshadowed by Harris (and Biden) on Thursday, or if they can retain some of the attention they earned. "Our nominee needs to have the language to talk about race in a far more constructive way", said Booker, who had pushed back against comments made by Biden a week earlier in which he nostalgically referenced the "civility" he maintained during his time in the Senate with two segregationist Democrats in the 1970s despite their vast distance in ideology.
