But Prince William, who is second in line to the throne, was interested to know whether Brexit was a big concern for the sheep farmers he was speaking to.

He said: "Is that something you're anxious about?"

Adam Day, who runs the Cumbria Farmer Network, a non-profit organization that provides help to farmers, said: "The reality is that there is not enough income to make a living from old-fashioned traditional sheep farming or cattle farming".

He said farmers would be hit by export tariffs and a "black hole" in subsidy payments.

Sam Rawling, a sheep farmer, said he was very surprised to see his industry voting for Brexit.

Charlotte made her most recent public appearance at last week's Trooping the Colour, joined by her parents Kate and William and Prince Louis.

"It is vital that we support everyone who cares for children in those formative years, especially if we want to help with the inter-generational cycle of addiction".

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent time on Deepdale Hall Farm with the Brown family tending to their flock of Herdwick and Swaledale sheep, joining them for sheep shearing, herding and dry stone walling", a palace tweet reported. "I remember you telling us about that, '" Irving recalled.

Clad in casual-yet-chic duds, the royal duo were greeted with the usual enthusiasm by well-wishers gathered in the Market Square of the town of Keswick, where they shook hands and cuddled a trio of cute spaniels trained as service dogs.

Earlier in the day, they met a four-legged friend called Prince Harry as they visited Keswick.

While stopping by Keswick Market, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met with a pet owner named Kerry Irving and his three spaniels.

One pup was named Harry, after her brother-in-law, Prince Harry.

Kate also gave a speech ahead of the dinner, in which she said that working with Action on Addiction "was the catalyst" for her interest in child development. "Maybe we should lend you Lupo".

He and his wife Angela have gone on to use the dogs for therapy to help others and raise funds for charities supporting mental health - an issue close to Kate and William's hearts.
