Rafael Benitez to leave Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly considering a multi-million dollar offer to become the next manager of Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.

However, the Chronicle says Benitez would prefer to sign a new contract with Toon, despite being at odds with the club's hierarchy.

Benitez remains one of the favourites to replace Sarri but Frank Lampard is the overwhelming favourite for the job.

There is a chance Benitez may decide not to go to China and wait for another offer - from Newcastle or elsewhere.

In 1978, 73-year-old Karl Wallenda fell to his death from a high wire strung between two buildings in Puerto Rico. Lijana Wallenda's fall happened during an attempt to break a Guinness world record with an eight-person pyramid.

Though Benítez has refused big-money offers from China and Saudi Arabia in the past, the inability to now sign players amid ownership uncertainty could be enough for him to leave after three years at the club.

Dalian have won only three of their 13 league games so far this season under South Korean coach Choi Kang-hee.

Benitez joined the club in March 2016 with the club facing relegation but despite an upturn in form following his arrival the club was relegated.

Since then, Benítez has miraculously led the Magpies to 10th and 13th-placed finished.
