Rafael Nadal says he won't play Wimbledon warmups

Rafael Nadal 'Not all the best sportsmen are humble'

Rafael Nadal celebrates with the trophy after his final match against Dominic Thiem at the French Open in Roland Garros June 9, 2019.

Looking only at grand slams won - more later on why that is not the only criterion for assessing greatest of all time (GOAT) credentials - Federer has held at least a three-slam lead over his great rival since July 2004.

He has won his 12th Roland-Garros title, defeating Dominic Thiem in the finals on Sunday. Speaking about his injuries, he said: "I lost, I think, around 15 or even more Grand Slams in my career for injuries". There have been concerns raised over the last few years as to whether Nadal will be able to continue his dominance given the fact that he is now 33 years old and is coming to the end of his career. "You can not say it is a dream, because I never dreamed of such a thing".

"It's a motivation, yes, but it's not my obsession". As everybody knows, I love to play on grass.

Nadal's caution is well-founded. He is also a three-time runner-up at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, but he hasn't reached the final since 2011.

That is according to two-time Roland Garros finalist Alex Corretja. As usual, Nadal seems too grounded to get carried away. He had wondered whether he should take a break or something in his attitude had to change. Marat Safin won his second major at the Australian Open in 2005 but that was before either Nadal or Djokovic had begun their count.

This was the second year in a row in which Nadal has beaten Thiem in the final.

Corretja told Eurosport: "I have just spoken to Rafa and he looked very calm, he said it was crucial he broke back in the first set and got ahead".

Trumped! India may impose retaliatory tariffs on 29 U.S. products
Retaliatory tariffs on USA goods were deferred till June 16 as India was in the midst of General Elections. India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry did not respond to an email from Reuters to seek comments.

"After those two sets, I dropped a little bit my level. It is tough when you receive one after another, and then sometimes you are groggy", he explained.

Just one example: Nadal has always been thought of as the ultimate baseliner, someone who will get to every ball back there and wallop it back over the net. As he came on very late Sunday night, after the obligatory TV Interviews and photo shoots in front of the press, he also spoke of mental problems, which employed him at the tournament in Barcelona, when he retired against Thiem.

This time, about a month out, even Rafael Nadal had his doubts about what his chances were going to be for yet another French Open title. "I was so far off the ball and couldn't play it any different way". In 2018, I only played nine events and finished just seven of them.

"We'll see, but, yes, I think so".

He lost four years in succession to players outside the top 100 - Lukas Rosol, Steve Darcis, Nick Kyrgios and Dustin Brown - from 2012-2015.

Last year, he lost a marathon semi-final to Novak Djokovic by dropping the last set 10-8. So I will not play before Wimbledon. I feel very lucky about all the things that are happening to me.

Rafael Nadal. What more is there to say about the undisputed King of Clay?
