Person of Interest’ Emerges in Case of Missing Utah Student Mackenzie Lueck

Police said Friday that a person was arrested earlier in the day in connection to the disappearance of Mackenzie Lueck, the 23-year-old student who was last seen meeting an unknown individual around 3 a.m. on June 17 near a park in Salt Lake City.

SALT LAKE CITY-Authorities are filing murder and kidnapping charges in the death of a Utah college student who disappeared 11 days ago. Neighbors reported they saw Ajayi burning something in his backyard with gasoline on June 17 and 18, police said.

Chief Brown said he told the missing woman's parents in Southern California about the arrest earlier Friday morning.

It wasn't immediately clear if Mr Ajayi, who had previously been identified as a person of interest in Ms Lueck's disappearance, had an attorney. According to the Deseret News, Salt Lake Assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt told reporters at the scene that the house and its occupants have been "a nexus to the case".

Police have not indicated if they suspect foul play, but said they were anxious as she has missed classes and flights.

Brown spoke to her father and said he could "feel the heartache and the pain and the suffering in his voice as we spoke".

She had just flown in from Los Angeles after attending her grandmother's funeral and has not been heard from since.

At 2:42 a.m., she took a Lyft from the airport to North Salt Lake's Hatch Park, arriving at 2:59 a.m.

Police initially identified Ajayi as a person of interest Thursday after serving a search warrant at his home in the Fairpark neighborhood.

The Lyft driver told police he dropped off Lueck at Hatch Park in North Salt Lake about 3 a.m. where another person in a auto was waiting for her. He at one time lived in an apartment across the street from Hatch Park, where Lueck was last seen being dropped off by a Lyft driver and getting into another waiting vehicle.

Troubling News About Guns N' Roses Drummer
In 1989 he missed an appearance at the American Music Awards; it was later revealed that he was in a drug rehabilitation program. Adler served as both drummer and co-songwriter in Guns N' Roses until he was sacked over his heroin addiction in 1990.

June 23, Sunday - Lueck missed a scheduled flight back to California.

Detectives have been canvassing the area around the park and looking for video surveillance.

"While we do not know the details of Mackenzie's disappearance, we do know that victim blaming and shaming is inappropriate and unacceptable", the coalition said.

Brown did not confirm if the owner of the home was the person Lueck met after taking Lyft from the airport.

He did not provide his name and said the family would not be speaking publicly. And they say it is unusual.

Salt Lake City Police requested for the person who picked up the items to contact them, as they continue searching for Lueck.

"She's extremely dedicated. She would never miss her midterms or anything like that", Fine told the Salt Lake City TV station.

Mr Ajayi has acknowledged speaking with her the evening of June 16, but denied talking to her after or knowing what she looked like - despite having her photos of her on his phone, Chief Brown said. "She hasn't been home".

"And my commitment to Greg was we would do everything within our power, the Salt Lake City Police Department, to bring Mackenzie home", Brown said. "And that is our charge and that we are committed to do".
