Reports: Widespread tech outage affecting Target stores

Target acknowledged the checkout headaches in a tweet and apologized for the inconvenience without providing a timetable for fixing the problem.

"We will provide an update as soon as possible", the tweet stated.

Target temporarily closed some of its stores rather than risk aggravating shoppers. 10News has reached out to Target to see if any stores in San Diego were affected by the outage.

Across the country, cash registers at Target retail stores were reported down Saturday afternoon.

Trevor May earned his first save of the season as he allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning. Polanco advanced to third on a flyout to left field and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

The hashtag #targetdown quickly began trending as shoppers voiced frustration, with several tweeting pictures of full carts stalled at the moment of purchase.

The cash registers have been down for more than an hour, according to customers and staff. Shoppers said employees across the country sprung into action - they handed out samples of mascara and shampoo in OH, fruit snacks in Missouri and strawberry chocolate chip Frappuccinos in Oklahoma. There are reports of long lines and frustrated customers.

Many customers and even Target employees also spoke out against the bad behavior they've witnessed while in line during the outage.

The woman, who refused to be identified, works at the Guest Services Desk and said she didn't know what issue was exactly but that it was fixed at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Others, left the store empty-handed.
