The Belgian forward was criticised by fans for his lack of effort, and was branded as being too unfit by many supporters and pundits.

The Belgium global struggled for goals last term, netting just 15 goals in 45 matches in all competitions.

But with United determined to recoup their £80 million outlay on Lukaku and the 26-year-old's £255,000 a week wages representing another huge consideration, Inter need to raise funds to help finance a deal by trimming their squad.

'It would be a good thing for both parties.

"It is clear that he has to leave Manchester United", Martinez told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

The source told ESPN that, while Lukaku is not pushing to leave, he feels the time is right for a new challenge and would like to join a club which would make him the centre of their project.

Seats were reportedly torn up from the floor and seatbelts broken by the turbulence, leaving passengers bleeding and bruised. A spokeswoman for ALK Airlines told news site Badische Zietung confirmed turbulence was behind the incident.

Lukaku publicly flirted with the idea of leaving United earlier this month.

Lukaku is a transfer target for new Inter Milan chief Antonio Conte - with the ex-Everton man having recently labelled the Italian the "best manager in the world".

Lukaku, who has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, has a contract at United until 2022. Serie A seems to be a good choice for him, although I think he can handle any league.

"And then Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, [Maurizio] Sarri will go to Juventus, [Carlo] Ancelotti is at Napoli, it will be an exciting Serie A".

Lukaku scored 87 goals in 166 appearances in all competitions for the Merseysiders, becoming the club's record Premier League goalscorer in the process, prompting United to bring him to Old Trafford two years ago.
