US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he would be willing to meet with Kimg Jong Un in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) with South Korea.

"If Chairman Kim of North Korea sees this, I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say Hello (?)!"

The statement by North Korea's first Vice-Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui came as a response to Donald Trump's offer of a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in DMZ.

And his latest entreaty comes after his much-touted Hanoi Summit earlier this year fell apart as a diplomatic bust and as negotiated progress made during his 2017 Singapore Summit has unraveled.

There had been talks of a third summit between President Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un.

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in sought to appeal to Donald Trump's personal preferences on Saturday with a U.S. steak dinner and a guest list including a star woman golfer.

He told reporters, "We're going to see".

"I will be in South Korea".

Trump tweeted, referring to the North's leader. In fact, if Kim had left the North, Trump nearly certainly would have learned of it in his daily classified national security briefing, not to mention news coverage.

Trump confirmed to reporters Saturday that the United States had heard from North Korea and had extended an official invitation.

United said Flight 2098 heading from LaGuardia Airport experienced problems upon takeoff just before 8 a.m. All passengers were taken to a terminal where alternate arrangements were being made.

And when North Korea conducted several weapons tests last month, Trump took up a surprisingly moderate tone.

The official menu for a welcome dinner at the Blue House featured a Trump fave - sirloin steak of U.S. beef - as the main course.

"All I did is put out a feeler, if you'd like to meet", Trump said later of the message to Kim.

The White House declined to comment on whether the meeting would happen.

Trump revealed that he will travel to South Korea after attending the G20 summit in Japan.

In Seoul, Trump is scheduled to hold his eighth summit with Moon on Sunday.

"Nothing is fixed at the moment, and our previous position of hoping for dialogue between North Korea and the United States remains unchanged", the office said.

"That's called a real border", he added.

He said: "It's an honour to be with the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, a friend of mine - a man who has really done things in the last five years in terms of opening up Saudi Arabia". Pyongyang offered to shutter one nuclear facility in exchange for the lifting of some economic sanctions, while the Trump administration demanded that the North relinquish its entire program.

Trump called Kim's letter, which included birthday wishes for himself, 'beautiful'.
