REIMS FRANCE- JUNE 10 USA coach Jill Ellis speaks to the media during the USA press conference ahead of the Group F match between the USA and Thailand for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup France at Stade Auguste Delaune

"I feel over the past five years [I've] made a lot of important decisions. I have processes to make those decisions and own those processes".

- US women's national team coach Jill Ellis, on comments by former national team keeper, Hope Solo, dropped after the 2016 Olympics. Solo, who is working as a World Cup commentator for the BBC, told the British network that Ellis "cracks under pressure quite a bit" and often refused to let her players review video of their defensive mistakes because she was anxious it would damage their confidence. Pundits that are out there, that's part of it. She returned to the team under coach Pia Sundhage and won gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. She said the USA coach who was in charge when the team won the World Cup title four years ago, its first world championship since 1999, relies too much on her assistants, is reluctant to criticize players and "cracks under pressure". "She cracks under the pressure quite a bit", Solo said earlier this month on a BBC podcast. Just looking at the difference in the sport from the 2015 World Cup, Ellis knows the Americans will have more of a challenge this time around with the added depth on teams across the world.

Of the current 24-girls roster, Carli Lloyd is the most experienced one and the oldest of the team with 36 years old, she has been in 18 Women's World Cup games, with a total of eight goals from which six were at the 2015 edition while Tierna Davidson is the youngest player of the team with 20-years-old. "But often that doesn't matter because the quality of the players on the USA team is superb". Solo, now 37, never played for her country again, finishing her 17-year global career with 202 appearances. Afterward, Solo called the Swedes cowards for bunkering on defense.

Ellis, in her fifth year as head coach of the national team, is ready to focus on the World Cup. There was also an off-field altercation with family members in 2014, although charges in that case were dismissed. She was then barred by the team from the third-place game.

Froome out of Tour de France after training crash
Froome was believed to be using the eight-day race as preparation for the Tour but reports suggest he has fractured his femur. Clearly, he won't be at the start of the Tour de France . "We're trying to make sure that he's got the best care.

"I haven't been on social media since we left NY, so I'm not really sure what's going on, to be honest", Naeher said.

"This team is united in a way that I've never seen before and we're very excited to start the World Cup tomorrow". Jill didn't have that quality, she didn't bring that sense of leadership to us.

Midfielder Julie Ertz said the team is in its World Cup "bubble", where players shut out distractions. "Anything that you feel like doesn't keep you focused, we just try to eliminate it".
