Police say activist Sadie Roberts Joseph was found dead Friday

The arts community in Louisiana's capital city was mourning after it was reported that a Baton Rouge arts icon was found dead Friday night.

Her body was found in the trunk of a vehicle on the dead-end Adams Ave. near N 20th Friday afternoon.

The body of 75-year-old Sadie Roberts-Joseph was found in the trunk of a vehicle, according to a Facebook post by State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle on Friday morning.

The auto was found about three times from Roberts-Joseph's home, police said. "We had opportunities to work with her on so many levels", the Baton Rouge Police Department said in a statement.

According to The Advocate, Roberts-Joseph founded the Baton Rouge African American Museum in 2001 and was its curator.

"Ms. Sadie is a treasure to our community. Ms. Sadie is a treasure to our community, she will be missed by BRPD and her loss will be felt in the community she served". Police are still searching for tips in her case. "Our detectives are working diligently to bring the person or persons responsible for this heinous act to justice", say Baton Rouge police, who aren't divulging who tipped them to the body.

Stuart Nash said it's hard to set a budget for the buyback scheme because they do not know how many guns are out there. A police spokesperson says they've only had one dispute over price so far, and it was able to be peacefully resolved.

Gesturing toward her kitchen, Johnson said: 'The bread is still there. The museum sits on the campus of New St. Luke Baptist Church, where Roberts-Joseph's brother is pastor.

Joseph's home is located on Kaufman Street, which is roughly 3.5 miles from where her body was found.

"From reviving Juneteenth, to the Culture preserved at Her Museum, she was a trendsetter and icon in this City", the group said. She said her sister lived near her in the Scotlandville neighborhood of Baton Rouge and would check in with her daily. Sadie Roberts-Smith, 75, was discovered in a residential part of downtown Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome and state Rep. C. Denise Marcelle both said Roberts-Joseph was murdered - something police have not confirmed.

Roberts-Joseph's sister, Beatrice Johnson, told The Advocatethat Roberts-Joseph had come to her house, which was two doors away, last Friday because "she had mixed some cornbread, but her oven went out, and she brought it here to put in the oven".
