Amazon Music is now growing faster than Spotify and Apple Music

As reported in the Financial Times, Amazon had more than 32m subscribers in April across all its music services including Unlimited and Prime Music. Spotify still dominates from a subscriber number perspective, of course.

Amazon Music Unlimited was the fastest-growing music service over the last year according to new data that shows its subscriber base grew by 70%, even though it launched a year after Apple Music.

Per Thurrott, Midia credits Amazon's success to its Echo smart speakers, it's ubiquity with consumers and its price point. Apple Music has about 50 million subscribers.

In brief: Spotify and Apple Music are the two largest streaming outfits in the United States but a dark horse competitor - Amazon - is coming on strong.

Amazon Music Unlimited has been making huge strides as of late. Spotify and Apple Music have been on the market much longer, and brands tend to see diminishing returns on marketing investment as they saturate the market over time. And it's not resting on its laurels, now offering four months for 0.99p ahead of Amazon Prime Day. Integration with Amazon's Alexa speakers has also been a big boon for the service.

"We're not battling for the same customers as everyone else", Amazon's Steve Boom confirmed. "For the industry to reach its full potential, we can't just look at 15- to 22-year-olds". Amazon's is the oldest user base, followed by Apple and then Spotify.
