Astros among teams that could explore Noah Syndergaard trade

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that multiple teams have contacted the Mets about a potential Syndergaard trade, and there are some within the Astros organization who are "intrigued" by the idea of adding him.

The Padres are among several teams looking at Mets righty Noah Syndergaard. The Padres have been looking for a veteran starter since last offseason, when they had interest in Syndergaard, Corey Kluber and Marcus Stroman, among others.

Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler are reportedly available, but the Mets are not soliciting offers, according to the report. Syndergaard won't be eligible for free agency until after the 2021 season, and All-Star Gerritt Cole is set to hit the market this winter.

Syndergaard is struggling a bit this season as his 4.68 ERA is nearly a run and a half above his career 3.23 mark and he's on pace to walk more batters than he ever has.

He added "While its time has come, the role it has played in the evolution of our brand will be forever cherished". It was powered by an air-cooled engine mounted at the rear and was known for its simple design and reliability.

As for the Padres, they have one of the strongest, if not the strongest, farm systems in baseball.

The Mets have been hesitant to move publicly into seller mode, but at 40-50, they're not close to playoff contention. Unfortunately for Van Wagenen, his first blockbuster trade as GM - an offseason trade with the Seattle Mariners with Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz - has backfired so far.

But trading Syndergaard would mark a dramatic shift in the front office's long-term thinking about how to construct the roster. He is posting career-worsts in ERA (4.68) and WHIP (1.28), and has 101 strikeouts over 105.2 innings and a 6-4 record in 17 starts.

For Syndergaard, who has both postseason and World Series experience and two years of team control, maybe they would be willing to part with him.
