Producer Kevin Feige played ringmaster at the Marvel panel, where he revealed a slew of projects in the works, including Doctor Stranger: In the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Blade, Eternals and limited series like WandaVision and Hawkeye.

Avatar has held onto the record for a decade at $2.789 billion. However, Endgame was sitting just $500,000 (£399,902) behind on Friday at $2,789.2 (£2,230.82) billion, meaning the record will be broken by the end of the weekend (if not already).

Avengers: Endgame amassed $US853 million at the domestic box office, making it the second-highest grossing movie in North America behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($US936 million).

In late June, Avengers: Endgame was re-released in theaters with about six minutes of new footage in order to help pass Avatar.

Most of the storylines in the Marvel movies since then have had objects called Infinity Stones playing a part and, well, it was up to the final movie to sort it all out, particularly as it had not gone well for the superheroes in the immediately previous movie, Infinity War.

"The talented filmmakers behind these worlds have much more in store, and we look forward to the future of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pandora".

Avengers: "Endgame" director Joe and Anthony Russo made a huge revelation about an addition to the plot of the film which had to be dropped later. Which is perhaps not all that surprising, given that Disney also now controls Fox, home of Cameron and Avatar.

Avatar 2 is set to premiere on 18 December 2020, and Avatar 3 will release a year later on 17 December 2021.
