BCB given clearance to play ODI series in Sri Lanka

Bangladesh cricket authorities on Monday announced they would let go head coach Steve Rhodes after a disappointing campaign in the World Cup.

An interim coach is to be appointed for their three-game one-day worldwide series in Sri Lanka later this month. "After receiving positive results from our security team we had chose to proceed with the tour Sri Lanka", BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh finished eighth in the 10-team group stage with three wins from their nine matches.

Head coach Rhodes joined Bangladesh in June a year ago and guided the team to their first ever title in a multi-team tournament in Ireland just before the World Cup.

The first two T20 games will be in Colombo on Aug 31 and Sept 2 at the R. Premadasa Stadium while the final match will be on Sept 6 in Kandy.

Both Walsh and Joshi had been under contract with the BCB until the end of the World Cup. "After receiving positive results from our security team we had made a decision to proceed with the tour Sri Lanka".

Bangladesh's next assignment is a three-match ODI in Sri Lanka later this month and will be travelling without most of their support staff which helped them in the World Cup. West Indies great Walsh joined the team in August 2016 and former India spinner Joshi in August 2017. The only members of the World Cup backroom in Sri Lanka will be fielding coach Ryan Cook and analyst Shrinivas Chandrasekaran. "But it does not depend entirely on us", he said.
