Theresa May's innings as United Kingdom prime minister might be coming to an end but she was clearly enjoying herself as she hosted England's World Cup-winning cricketers at Downing Street on Monday.

England ended their 44-year wait for a maiden 50-overs World Cup title by beating New Zealand in a thrilling final Super Over on Sunday. "At the end of the day nothing separated us, no one lost the final, but there was a crowned victor and there it is", Williamson told Newstalk ZB on Tuesday.

While Taufel said it was an "error of judgment" by the umpires, he added that it was "unfair" to say the extra run had decided the outcome.

"They should have been awarded five runs, not six", he said, adding that England's Adil Rashid should have faced the second-last ball instead of Stokes.

"I suppose you never thought you would have to ask that question and I never thought I would have to answer it (smiling)", was Williamson's first reaction when asked about the rule.

"At the end of the day the umpires are there to rule and they're human as well and like players sometimes errors are made", he told New Zealand media.

"We are world champions; we have got the trophy and we intend to keep it".

I am looking forward to wearing that jersey, I know it comes with responsibilities, but I'm ready for that too. I can defend but also push forwards, we will understand together with the coach how I can help the team.

There have been calls in New Zealand to give the team a ticker-tape parade, regardless of the result.

"This is more about giving Kiwis the chance of welcoming them home", she said.

Under the players' centralised contract with New Zealand Cricket, all prize money from tournaments is to be shared amongst the squad.

"At the moment, however, with some players arriving back at different times, some not arriving back at all, and others having alternative playing commitments, it's just not practical", they said.

And here today we have a team that will be spoken of in awe for generations to come.
