Veteran special effects coordinator dies after accident on set of ‘Titans’ TV show

Warner Bros. says a crew member died in an accident Thursday at a special effects facility in Toronto.

Special effects coordinator Warren Appleby was killed by a piece of a vehicle which broke off during testing in Toronto, Canada.

The DC Universe show Titans has been noted for its gritty fighting sequences and brutality in what it puts the characters through. "Warren was loved by all that were able to work together in its impressive 25-year career with him".

Titans is an original live-action show produced for Warner Bros.' DC streaming service, DC Universe.

Appleby was reportedly fatally injured after being hit by a piece of equipment that unexpectedly broke off during preparation and testing of an effect for an upcoming shoot for Titans, The Wrap reports. He suffered very serious injuries and died as paramedics were taking him to hospital via emergency run.

A veteran, Appleby was a special effects coordinator on films like Max Payne, IT and the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water.

Appleby also worked with del Toro on the FX series The Strain, on which he was nominated for a VES Award in 2016 in the category of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode. He was very near and very dear and an integral part of our core team.

Appleby, the statement said, was a "beloved business partner, leader, mentor, friend and brother to many in our community, and a loving husband and father to his wife and children".

Warner Bros. also issued a statement addressing Appleby's untimely passing and honoring the talented special effects coordinator he was.

Titans is in production on its second season.

It is based on DC Comics" long-running "Teen Titans'. An investigation team is now running an investigating regarding the whole incident.
