Director Scott Derrickson is back at the helm for the Doctor Strange sequel, and while on stage at Comic-Con, he said the new film would lean more into the horror genre.

The title suggests that yes, the multiverse is very much real (contrary to that Mysterio trickery) and this sequel will find Doctor Strange venturing into said multiverse with a witchy companion.

Westworld season 3: Tessa Thompson, Aaron Paul tease what's next
Okay, so that's clearly not going to be the name of whichever new park Stubbs is getting weaponry from, but it looks so damn cool. The new season also stars Tessa Thompson , Lena Waithe , Scott Mescudi and Marshawn Lynch , and will return next year.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been announced at San Diego Comic Con 2019. Derickson calls it "the first scary MCU film". Something loaded with gothic horror. Having him make Marvel's first full-blown horror movie should work out nicely. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 7, 2021.

"I'm really excited to be at the dawn of the project", said Cumberbatch. Strange's usual authority as seen in other films will be turned against him as evil forces "try to destroy him".

While details regarding the plot remain thin, we do know that Elizabeth Olsen will return as the Scarlett Witch in the movie. Because that's how Marvel works, folks. Kevin Feige confirmed the events in the upcoming Disney+ show WandaVision will directly link to Doctor Strange 2.
