When the post-mortems for Australia's World Cup campaign are being assembled a couple of hours later, Australia's coach Justin Langer sails fairly smoothly through his press conference.

The 25-member squad consists of the 15 players who are in England with the Australia A setup, seven members from Australia's World Cup side and three players, Peter Siddle, Cameron Bancroft and Marnus Labuschagne, who are now playing County cricket.

Warner is expected to open with Marcus Harris (109), Cameron Bancroft (158) and Joe Burns (133) all staking their claims to partner him with centuries against Sussex recently.

"It's going to be some real competition", Langer said. It's a completely different series going into an Ashes and there will be quite a few different players in their Test team than will be in this one-day team.

"Unusually for Australian teams in World Cups, we played our worst cricket in the most critical moments".

Ricky Ponting is expected to help selectors choose the Ashes squad.

This series will mark the first time in their global careers that quicks Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and James Pattinson are all fit and available at the same time.

England swing bowler Jimmy Anderson (calf) is in doubt for the first Test.

'I think it's been well documented that he was our leading run-scorer in South Africa.

"Jhye Richardson, who is a very exciting talent, he'll come back into the fold at some stage". We've got lots of bowling talent in Australia, the key is to keep them fit and healthy.

"And if we do that we'll always be competitive".
