World Golf Championship-FedEx St Jude Invitational- Round Two

England's Matthew Fitzpatrick shot a six-under-par 64 to take a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational in Memphis.

The 24-year-old, who has won five European Tour titles since turning pro in the wake of a stellar amateur career, is seeking to improve on his best US Tour title - a runner-up finish at Bay Hill this year. He rolled in a 26-footer on No. 2, hit his third shot on the par-5 third to 8 feet and wrapped up his birdie binge on the par-3 fourth, hitting his tee shot from 174 yards to 10 feet.

Bjerregaard's tee shot went 214 yards to the rear rear greenside bunker, his second shot went 7 yards to the rear greenside bunker, and his sand shot went 9 yards to the green where he had a one-putt for bogey on the 239-yard par-3 14th.

"My irons have been pretty good all year to be honest".

"I have to admit, (I am a) little surprised at how the golf course is playing", the world number 29 told Golf Channel. "That's obviously done well so far this week".

Fitzpatrick added: "If I can just keep hitting fairways and greens, then give yourself a lot of chances". He's already pencilled in some time off in those weeks, and said qualifying would be a "bonus".
