Emmy nominations: Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory make final grab for glory

Last year's big victor The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is the year's second-most-nominated show with 20 nods, including for outstanding comedy series and lead actress in a comedy series. They could also be overshadowed by new rivals such as Pose and Fleabag. Forty-five (!) thespians and creatives scored their first Emmy nods on Tuesday, including This Is Us' Mandy Moore, Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie and Better Call Saul's Michael McKean.

HBO's political satire "Veep", which ended its seven-season run in May, will compete for its fourth Emmy as best comedy series, along with star Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the foul-mouthed politician hell-bent on becoming U.S. President.

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is seen accepting the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series at the 2016 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

"The Big Bang Theory", which ended its run in May as the most-watched comedy on US television, was shut out of the major categories.

"Game of Thrones" is seeking to claim the Emmy Awards version of the Iron Throne one last time. It has set the record for the most number of nominations for a show in a single year. Other best comedy contenders include "Barry", which won acting trophies previous year for Bill Hader and Henry Winkler, and sole network entry "The Good Place".

"Shocked. Grateful. (expletive) Thank you thank you thank you!" The category also found room to recognise talent in new shows, including Dead to Me's Christina Applegate and Russian Doll's Natasha Lyonne.

Liverpool boss Klopp: I need Mignolet to stay
However, Klopp has moved to dispel those rumours and insists he wants to keep the former Sunderland man in his ranks for 2019-20. A spell at Belgian side Gent last season did not work out, with Arroyo failing to start a single game after joining in August.

Previously, she was best known for her portrayal of Elaine on "Seinfeld".

Outside of Game of Thrones' predictable domination, the Emmys nominee list this year is full of some real head-turners.

The showing by "Game of Thrones" led HBO back to dominance over Netflix, the streaming service that bumped it past year from its longtime Emmy dominance.

Broadcast networks, steadily eclipsed by the rise of cable and now streaming, were far behind, with NBC getting 58 nods to top CBS' 43, ABC's 26 and Fox's 18.

The Emmy awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on September 22.
