"[Centre-back] is a position we've been looking for the right solution for a very long time".

"We're really relieved to get it over the line and now our centre-back positions are set now for a 60-game campaign".

"From day one the gaffer said we need a winning mentality and from everything we've done so far, the running, the fitness, the last two pre-season matches, we won them both".

"He gives us that natural balance where we will be able to play a back three if and when needed". He's a good man, he's a leader.

"We are representing Rangers, and the standards here for many, many years have been top, top drawer".

Helander is Rangers' eighth signing of the summer window and Gerrard's focus will now turn to off-loading some of those players who have become surplus to his requirements.

"It's very hard to meet everyone's ambitions in terms of game time because everyone wants to start every game and it's hard to do so".

"Sometimes I have to respect players who are saying they are only interested in starting every game".

Liverpool boss Klopp: I need Mignolet to stay
However, Klopp has moved to dispel those rumours and insists he wants to keep the former Sunderland man in his ranks for 2019-20. A spell at Belgian side Gent last season did not work out, with Arroyo failing to start a single game after joining in August.

And speaking about Filip Helander, Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has predicted that the player will make an immediate impact for the club during the 2019-20 season.

"In terms of incomings, we are near enough done. But there won't be much more activity in terms of incomings".

Daniel Candeias scored twice before Connor Goldson and Jermain Defoe sealed a memorable friendly victory, but it was another player that stole Gerrard's praise. "It was very beneficial", said Gerrard.

"So it was a great test for us and we have passed it with flying colours".

He continued: "It is pleasing for the fans to see the evidence out there on the pitch of the standards we are trying to drive".

He told RangersTV: "I was very impressed and I thought it was an outstanding performance from a team point of view, and obviously across the board, there were a lot of very strong performances". They faced a technical team today, similar to some of the European challenges we are hoping to face.

"We want him to help us organise and keep clean sheets and defend the goal with his life, and for the amount of money we have paid - £3million - we feel we have an excellent player".

"We showed against good players today we can handle the ball and move it in the right areas".
