Earlier in June it was reported that Google could face fines from a late-stage investigation by the federal government into YouTube's handling of children's videos, after which the platform said it was considering significant changes to protect its youngest content creators and viewers.

Per the settlement, Google will pay several millions of dollars in fines, but exact figures remain undisclosed, the report says.

Over 1.8 billion users logged-in on YouTube every month, according to a Business Insider report from previous year.

During the FTC investigation, Google explored ways to change its algorithms in order to determine which YouTube video was lined up next, according to the Post's insider.

Specifically, the investigation found in part that YouTube had been collecting the data of children under the age of 13 - a violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The report indicates that the FTC's three Republican members are in favour of the settlement, while the two Democrats are against it.

According to sources, Dikshit had been undergoing treatment at Fortis Escorts hospital under the supervision of Dr. It was this bond which allowed her to continue in the post of chief minister of Delhi for so long.

Google declined to comment, while the FTC didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

That's according to a Washington Post report that Google has reached a settlement with the agency. Ed Markey sent a letter to the FTC expressing concerns over YouTube's kids' content practices, asking the commission to "hold YouTube accountable for any illegal activity affecting children that the company may have committed".

While privacy advocates complain that many YouTube channels that advertise themselves as for people over 13 actually feature content aimed at children, the video hosting company insists that children can watch videos with parental permission and the website has no possible way of knowing whether children received these permissions. The Rule requires online services that collect personal information from children under 13 to provide notice to parents and obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from children.
