According to The Wall Street Journal, which was the first to report, The layoffs are expected to hit Huawei's USA development subsidiary known as Futurewei, which reportedly employs 850 people in research labs throughout the US, including Texas, California and Washington state.

One person told Reuters that the layoffs could be in the hundreds.

Several Futurewei employees have reportedly been notified about their layoff, and more are expected to be announced in the near future.

Huawei declined to comment, the WSJ report said. Huawei has offered Chinese employees to return to China to pursue their careers, another source said. The move to block Huawei's access to USA suppliers escalated the campaign.
