The Mexican drug lord may be wearing a prison jumpsuit for the rest of his life, but thanks to his daughter, Alejandrina Guzman Salazar, and his first wife, Maria Alejandrina Salazar Hernandez, El Chapo is now a fashion icon in Mexico.

He says authorities would tell him only that his client was en route to the supermax facility in Florence, Colorado.

The Bureau of Prisons declined to comment further. In Guzman's case, U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan agreed at the close of his sentencing to recommend to the bureau that it let Guzman stay at a federal jail in Manhattan for two more months to help his lawyers mount an appeal.

"He's there. Just got it", Jeffrey Lichtman, Guzman's attorney said a few minutes after noon. Prison officials and prosecutors wouldn't talk about Guzman's whereabouts on Thursday.

Guzman was whisked away early Friday from a secret location in NY, on his way to the Supermax prison in Florence, his attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, told the Denver Post.

Guzman, the 62-year-old former co-leader of Mexico's feared Sinaloa drug cartel, was convicted in February of smuggling hundreds of tons of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana into the United States, the Independent reported.

Guzman joins a long list of notorious criminals there. Once the trial started, they secretly kept him locked up in the bowels of the courthouse during the week to make the logistics less arduous.

The high-security "Supermax" prison, 115 miles (185 km) south of Denver with about 375 inmates, has never had an escape since it opened in 1994.

Before he was finally captured in 2016, Guzman twice escaped maximum-security prisons in Mexico.

Current ADX inmates include convicted "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski, Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols, the British "shoe bomber" Richard Reid and the Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is awaiting execution.
