Man who lost daughter questions FAA inspections

'There was nothing I could do to save them,' Canadian man who lost family in 737 Max crash tells Boeing probe

At a congressional hearing in Washington, Paul Njoroge said Boeing's focus on share price and profits "at the expense of the safety of human life" and its cosy relationship with its U.S. regulator, the FAA, had led to the two crashes and cost him his family.

The Nairobi-bound Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed just minutes after takeoff on March 10 near Addis Ababa, killing 157 people on board - eighteen of the victims were Canadian citizens and several others were foreign nationals living in Canada.

MAX aircraft have been grounded worldwide since shortly after the Ethiopian Airlines crash, and it's not clear when they will be certified to fly again.

Njoroge testified in front of a congressional hearing on aviation safety on Wednesday.

There is talk of rebranding the aircraft: recent images from the Boeing factory have shown Ryanair's aircraft branded 737 8200, rather than 737 MAX, and this is likely a plan set out to curb the negative connotations associated with the plane.

A man whose family was killed in the crash of a Boeing 737 Max jet in Ethiopia accused the company of wrongful conduct and told a U.S. House subcommittee that the process to approve aircraft must be strengthened.

Njoroge, 35, told reporters after he testified that he did not think the public would trust Boeing going forward. Do you want to fly in those planes? "As pilots struggled to keep the plane flying for six minutes - the terror that my wife must have experienced with little Rubi on her lap, our two children beside her crying for their daddy, and my mother-in-law feeling helpless beside her. They had to somehow comfort the children during the final moments, knowing they were already lost", Njoroge said.

Second place in the most played list went to Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling , while Pharrell Williams' Happy came third. The album was certified 5× Platinum in the United Kingdom and eventually sold over 3 million units worldwide.

This comes days after United Airlines extended its cancellation of 737 MAX flights to November 3rd, affecting around 5000 flights. Boeing has said it developed a software fix to the MCAS stabilization system, which investigators have linked to both incidents, but an additional flaw has since emerged, and the company continues to work on the plane. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilots found a new potential issue with the 737 Max aircraft during a simulated flight that affected pilots' abilities to quickly and easily follow the required recovery procedures for the runaway stabilizer.

"Boeing has never reached out to families about the impossible sorrow and grief we will carry for our entire lives", Njoroge said.

Boeing said on July 3 it would give $100 million over multiple years to local governments and non-profit organizations to help families and communities affected by the crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia.

Feinberg, who will jointly administer the fund with lawyer Camille Biros, said the other $50m in the fund is earmarked for government and community projects.

Boeing reiterated on Wednesday the money distributed through the fund would be independent from the outcome of any lawsuits.

Chicago: Boeing announced that it has dedicated $50 million of a previously announced $100 million fund to provide near-term financial assistance to families of the victims of the Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Flight 302 accidents.
