Reports Manchester United taken aback after club demands £50 million for youngster with just 9 league games

WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Matt Ritchie of Newcastle United (11) is shown a yellow card by referee Graham Scott as team mate Sean Longstaff appeals during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United at Molineux on February 11, 2019 in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.

If Newcastle refuse to compromise over Longstaff, who is under contract until 2022 after signing an extension in December, United are prepared to move on to other targets.

Longstaff has been long linked with Old Trafford with past reports stressing that the Mancunian outfit were confident of securing his signature and that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eager to make the 21-year-old Englishman his third signing of the campaign before departing on the pre-season tour.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout season last term, after arriving back from a full year on loan in League One with Blackpool.

While Manchester United have made no attempt to mask their interest, they are still yet to make a formal approach for Longstaff. And Longstaff fits into that profile perfectly, which had prompted the 20-time English champions to prepare an opening bid for the midfielder.

Then too, the Men in Blue had advanced to the final after a almost spotless campaign only to falter when it mattered most. No new tickets will be sold for the match if you thought you could make a last-minute attempt to enter the stadium.

Manchester United are in the market to sign a centre-half after they conceded more goals than Liverpool FC and Manchester City combined last season.

Manchester United have also snapped up England Under-21 global Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a £50m deal from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

Leicester are demanding £90m for the England centre-back but United are hoping to strike a deal around the £75m figure that Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk past year.

United are believed to have made an enquiry into the midfielder's availability, only to be taken aback by the North East club's staggering £50m asking price.
