Matt Damon to star in Tom McCarthy's next

The American actor is teaming up with Tom McCarthy, who won an Oscar in 2016 for Spotlight, to star in Stillwater. According to Variety, the actor jumped aboard the project in May after which the studio picked it up as a vehicle for McCarthy, who it worked with on the best picture victor Spotlight.

Damon's next role on the big screen will be alongside Christian Bale in "Ford v Ferrari", a biopic about the Ford Motor Company's efforts to beat perennial victor Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For Matt, "Stillwater" won't be the only film in which he's set to play a character who works in the oil industry, as previous year it was reported he would be taking on the lead role in "The King of Oil", a biographical flick based on the autobiography "The King of Oil: The Secret Lives of Marc Rich", written by Daniel Ammann.

McCarthy co-wrote the script with frequent Jacques Audiard collaborator Thomas Bidegain, of Dheepan and The Sisters Brothers fame, and Noé Debré, who also worked on Dheepan, as well as the 2018 crime thriller The World Is Yours.

"Tom, Thomas and Noé have written a complex, surprising and emotional story, and Tom is crafting a film that asks us to consider how we engage with each other in an increasingly connected buy also fragmented world", said King & Chasin. The company will finance and produce the film through Amblin Partners, with Focus Features distributing the film domestically and Universal International handling international distribution.
