New York City announces parade for World Cup champions

On June 26, Trump criticized USA soccer player Megan Rapinoe - a purple-haired LBGTQ rights activist who scored one of the team's two goals in Sunday's win over the Netherlands in Lyon, France - after she said she wouldn't go "to the f--king White House" if the team won, based on her opposition to some of Trump's policies.

The last ticker tape parade held in New York City was to honor the USA's 2015 World Cup victory. "This team is truly special, and so is the level of support that our fans have shown every step of the way along the quest to a fourth star".

The U.S. will welcome back the team to celebrate their victory.

New York City will host a ticker tape parade on Wednesday to honor the U.S. Women's World Cup championship team and present them with the keys to the city.

In a tweet minutes after the team's victory, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced there would be a parade Wednesday at the Canyon of Heroes, a stretch of Broadway in lower Manhattan where parades are held, to celebrate the victory. Each parade is marked with a granite strip along the parade route. Those celebrating began tossing computer paper, rolls of toilet paper and occasionally the contents of office trash cans in lieu of the traditional paper ribbons.

Morris may renege on Spurs for Knicks
Spears reported that Morris was reconsidering his deal with the Spurs and thinking about signing with the Knicks instead. NY then went on to ink Wayne Ellington, Elfrid Payton, Julius Randle , Bobby Portis and Taj Gibson to contracts.

The parades generate literally tons of paper and other debris, the NYC Department of Sanitation says.

Between the confetti and the clean-up costs, the parades can be expensive.

The 2019 World Cup took place at Stade de Lyon in France and was attended by 57,900.

Throughout the 2019 World Cup, the top-ranked US women's team had a lead going into halftime of every match they played and had not been held scoreless in the first half until their match against Netherlands on Sunday.

Thousands gathered for that event to watch as de Blasio rode on a float with players including Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd, who had scored three goals in the tournament final.
