"Our 1st Amd. right to free speech allows boycott of inhumane policies". The bill is co-sponsored by Georgia Congressmember John Lewis and Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib, another of the four congresswomen cited by Trump in recent racist attacks.

"I believe right now with the BDS movement, it's not helpful in getting that two-state solution", Omar said from Beth El Synagogue.

The official BDS Twitter account responded to the bill in a tweet, saying, "The BDS movement for Palestinian rights warmly welcomes the resolution introduced by Congress members Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and USA civil rights veteran John Lewis 'Affirming that all Americans have the right to participate in boycotts in pursuit of civil and human rights'".

The resolution attracted some Republican detractors, with Rep.

Mr. Sherman didn't say he was offended by the resolution, noting that if he was hurt by every insult at Israel "I would spend my whole life offended".

The Jerusalem Post reports that the resolution does not explicitly refer to the BDS movement.

Two close US allies are condemning President Donald Trump's incendiary weekend tweets about four Democratic congresswomen. All four congresswomen who are believed to be the targets of his thread are left wing Democrats that are non-Caucasian.

"It reassures us that progressives, including in Congress, are defending freedom of expression and the right of oppressed communities, including Palestinians, to peacefully fight for their rights", said Hind Awwad, a spokeswoman for the BDS Movement, in a statement.

The BDS movement aims to deprive Israel of economic investment and impose sanctions in order to fight "Israel's oppression of Palestinians", according to the Palestinian BDS National Committee.

Omar's action was in response to the House Foreign Affairs Committee moving forward with five pro-Israel bills, three of which are resolutions with declarative objective, and two others bills that seek to sanction supporters of Hamas and to make improvements to the defense and security assistance to Israel.

Meanwhile, the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday passed a resolution accusing the BDS movement of promoting "principles of collective guilt, mass punishment and group isolation".

Several lawmakers told The Times they expect a vote on the resolution next week.

"There is overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress for strengthening our relationship with our vital ally Israel, the leading democracy in the Middle East".
