It is America's longest war and over 2,400 American service members have died fighting it.

Separately, a gun battle in the capital of Badghis province in the country's northwest left three police dead, provincial governor Abdul Ghafur Malikzai said.

The insurgents, who frequently exaggerate claims, said two U.S. "invaders" were killed and three wounded.

The NATO-led security alliance in Afghanistan says an American soldier was killed "in action" Saturday, which brings to 11 the number of deaths among the US military this year in the Afghanistan.

A spokesman for the Resolute Support mission said that in accordance with policy, no additional information will be released until 24 hours after the deceased's next of kin is informed.

China, Russia and the United States jointly welcomed Pakistan to a four-party consultation process and believed that Islamabad can play an important role in facilitating peace in Afghanistan, said a joint statement issued in Washington by Department of States.

The discrepancy between the number of fatalities given by the U.S. and the Taliban could not immediately be explained, but the Taliban often exaggerates its claims.

Separately, Afghanistan's Islamic State affiliate claimed Friday's suicide attack that killed 6 people.

The Nangarhar attack came three days after Afghan forces killed several civilians, including a mother and her six children, during an air and ground raid in the northern Baghlan province on Tuesday. At the same time, an Afghan delegation and the members of the hardline Islamist militant group agreed on a "roadmap for peace". The fatality reportedly has brought to 2,430 the number of USA service members killed since the Afghan war started in October of 2001.

Talks between Khalilzad and the Taliban have focused on US and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troop withdrawal and guarantees from the Taliban that Afghanistan would not again become a safe haven for terrorists to plan a global attack like 9/11.

Two US troops were killed in the same area last month in another Taliban-claimed attack, while the US and Afghan forces continue to conduct daily operations against the insurgents.
