The Facebook event planning to storm Area 51 so far has close to 500,000 participants

By mid-day Saturday, more than 680,000 people had signed up to attend a Facebook event titled, "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" and another 627,000 registered as "interested".

An event page called "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" had garnered almost 670,000 recruits as of Saturday.

The purported raid is set for September 20 between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., with the "details" section noting, "If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets".

The more than one million potential attendees have already posted over 27,000 times on the event page. "[Let's] see them aliens", the event said in the description of their page while referring a popular Japanese anime series. The base's current primary objective remains classified.

Other top-secret aircraft were tested there later, including the supersonic reconnaissance A-12 aircraft, code-named OXCART, and the F-117 stealth ground-attack jet, said archive senior fellow Jeffrey Richelson, who asked for the CIA's U-2 history in 2005.

The CIA only officially acknowledged Area 51's existence in 2013, and its primary objective remains classified, though it has been the site of hundreds of nuclear weapons tests and stealth aircraft flights.

"Although the commonly preferred official name for the facility today is the Nevada Test and Training Range at Groom Lake, both the names Watertown and Area 51 were used as official names for the facility", a brief history by the Central Intelligence Agency explains.

Area 51 is a mysterious United States military base located between mountain ranges north of Las Vegas, Nevada, and has for decades been the subject of discussion for UFO sleuths and believers in government-led coverups of aliens.

The event, which Joe Rogan said he partially feels responsible for after recently having Area 51 whistleblower Bob Lazar on his podcast, was created as a joke but nobody expected it to generate such huge attention.

That remains to be seen, but the truth is out there.
