An Oklahoma man and woman were arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop of a stolen auto revealed the two had a rattlesnake, radioactive uranium, a gun and an open bottle of Kentucky Deluxe whiskey. Rivera was charged with possession of firearm after a prior felony conviction.

The traffic stop happened June 26 in Guthrie, about 30 miles (45 kilometers) north of Oklahoma City.

KFOR spoke to Guthrie police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs, who says they're yet to charge the man for being in possession of the uranium or, for that matter, determine what he planned to do with it.

Then, police said, the officers found that the vehicle had been reported stolen and began to dig a little deeper. Neither the driver, Stephen Jennings, nor his passenger, Rachel Rivera, would provide a suitable explanation for it.

Police also found an open bottle of Kentucky Deluxe next to the gun. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a canister of radioactive powdered uranium.

USTR would also seek a rollback of retaliatory tariffs imposed by India in response to the steel and aluminium tariffs. Energy imports from Iran and defence imports from Russian Federation are also likely to figure in the discussions.

They were initially stopped after police noticed their vehicle's licence plate had expired, but officers soon noticed the timber rattlesnake in a box on the backseat.

"The uranium is the wild card in that situation", Gibbs said.

Gibbs said officers had to call in a hazardous materials disposal company to deal with the uranium rod, which he said was "radioactive", but at low levels.

Gibbs said that the man joked with arresting officers he was actually planning to build a "super snake" before explaining that he "scraps metal for a living" and got the uranium from a rod taken out of an instrument meant to detect radiation.

They can't charge Jennings for the rattlesnake because the man has hunting and fishing license and the incident happened in full rattlesnake season.
