Dhoni adopted his usual approach of taking things slow initially and then playing his shots later on during India's attempted chase of 240 against New Zealand in the semi-final, but was run-out just as he was starting to look risky.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh blames Indian team management for the exit of India from World Cup at the semi-final against New Zealand.

"The team management should have groomed someone". Yuvraj highlighted the fact that a similar scenario had unfolded in 2003 before the World Cup but the team persisted with the set of players they had backed leading into the mega event. "We have lost lots of good hands like Ambati Rayudu due to knee-jerk reactions". He feels that it is not fair and good to axe him after three or four bad innings, while he was among runs before that.

"It was disappointing to watch what they did with Rayudu".

Waugh, who led Australia to the World Cup in 1999, believes India wouldn't even have had a chance to win the game if Dhono wasn't there.

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill said that his game-changing run out of M.S. Dhoni during their 18-run semifinal victory over India was a "lucky" one. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya did the small job but both of them were dismissed while playing big shots. If No. 4 is a crucial position in ODI cricket, if you want someone to do well in that position, you will have to back him. "You can't drop someone if he is unable to do well all the time", he added. It is to be noted that his role is already under the scanner and it is likely that BCCI might not renew his contract this time.
