Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of MI and Ayanna Pressley of MA ― were born in the U.S.

"'Mr. President, I'm not saying you're a racist, but the racists think you're a racist'".

Omar became a citizen in 2000 at the age of 17, while Melania Trump became a citizen six years later at the age of 36, a year after she married the future president. A CNN request comment on her husband's tweets was not returned by Stephanie Grisham, the White House press secretary who also serves as the first lady's spokeswoman.

However, Ms Trump has not yet commented on her husband's racist tweets.

And last night CNN host Jake Tapper revealed that Donald Trump's latest wife has actually been a USA citizen less long than Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, one of the politicians of colour that Donald Trump urged to "go home", suggesting it may be the fact that they are not white that caused the President to target them like that.

Champigny is slated to be arraigned later this month in Milford District Court on charges including two counts of sexual assault. On Monday, police said 33-year-old Suhail Siddiqi, of Ajax, had been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib and Pressley are natural-born United States citizens, while Omar was born in Somalia and immigrated to the U.S. when she was young.

"His message is simple: the U.S. is the greatest nation on Earth, but if people aren't happy here they don't have to stay".

Speaking on CNN on Monday about Mr Trump racist tweets, political commentator Ana Navarro, said: "Melania Trump was born where - Slovenia?"

The women made headlines last week for condemning the conditions of border detention facilities.

"I'm not relishing the fight, I'm enjoying it because I have to get the word out to the American people and you have to enjoy what you do", Trump said. "It was heartbreaking. And I reacted with my own voice".
