THE WITCHER Trailer (2020) Henry Cavill Netflix Fantasy Series

Cavill will soon pick up arms as Geralt of Rivia, and while CD Projekt Red's video game franchise helped propel The Witcher into the mainstream, there's a real possibility that this upcoming Netflix series will introduce Geralt and a worldwide audience - this is Netflix we're talking about, after all; there aren't many streaming platforms that hold a candle to the company's global reach. "He embodies Geralt in a way that I don't think anybody else could", Hissrich said of Cavill while speaking with Entertainment Weekly.

The series is also headed to San Diego Comic-Con with a panel at 2:15 PM on July 19 in Hall H. Moderated by accomplished actress and host and beloved sci-fi fan Yvette Nicole Brown (Community, Mom), the panel will include cast members Cavill, Chalotra, and Allan alongside showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It stars Geralt (obvs), Yennefer, and a young Ciri, so we know roughly when in the series' chronology events are taking place but that's about it. "Then, when I heard the show was becoming a thing, it was a bit like an opportunity dream come true". "If you take all the other fantasy elements away, you take the magic and story and violence and sex away, you still have three characters who are this broken disjointed family who really need each other even though they don't want to admit it".

We got our first look at Henry Cavill as roguish monster hunter Geralt of Rivia when the first images from Netflix's adaptation of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's books The Witcher arrived earlier this month. Which is great as the video games are also an adaptation of the books. "The characters you're rooting for in the beginning may not be the characters you're rooting for in the end", Hissrich says.

That's probably why it's so hard to have villains in this particular world, where humans have to battle all sorts of creatures and monsters in addition to fighting for power among themselves. And characters you hate and seem absolutely evil are motivated by something that's really relatable and human and emotional. "I think audiences are really savvy and know when we're doing stuff to just shock them versus do stuff that really drives the story".

Sadly there was no word on a trailer for the new series.
