A strong economy has President Donald Trump's approval rating hitting a high point for his administration at 44% among adults and 47% among registered voters in the latest The Washington Post/ABC News poll.

President Donald Trump said Monday that he plans to bring back his unprecedented Fourth of July celebration in 2020 and "for the foreseeable future".

Last year, the same poll found Trump's approval rating at 39% or five points below his rating in the June 28-July 1 survey. Fifty percent of registered voters, however, still disapprove of Trump's job in office. Nearly half of those questioned also disapprove of Trump's job in handling taxes.

While Trump is in the red on taxes (42%), foreign policy (40%), immigration (40%), and health care (38%), he polls at 51% approval on the economy - and that's among US adults; among registered voters, Trump scored higher on overall approval.

Most Americans agree with Trump's handling of the economy, the tax cuts he implemented, immigration and foreign policy.

Those saying that Trump is "unpresidential" also dropped to 65% from the 70% who said he has not acted "fitting and proper for a president" in January 2018.

Looking at the upcoming 2020 election, the poll also cited one advantage the GOP has over their Democratic opponents. Two-thirds of this group also said they'd prefer Trump in the White House over former Vice President Joe Biden- a current frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Biden leads Trump 53% to 43%, Vermont Sen. Sanders leads Trump 51%-49% and Biden 53% to 47%. Kamala Harris of California, Sen. Meanwhile, Biden topped the president by 14 points and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg led Trump by 4 points. Trump would tie "a Socialist" candidate, with each getting 46 percent of the vote.

The president has consistently taken credit for positive economic data and said he would do even better in the polls were it not for what he considers unfair news coverage and the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.
