TIME Immersive VR/AR Mobile App Launches by Landing on the Moon

The moon rocks from Apollo 11, the first mission to the moon, are on loan to the Science Museum of Minnesota where they are on display to the public in honor of the 50th anniversary.

"With Landing on the Moon, TIME is building on its decades of trusted and authoritative space reporting to tell this story in a brand new way, just as we have done in previous projects such as our Emmy Award-winning documentary A Year in Space", said Edward Felsenthal, TIME Editor in Chief and CEO.

What better way to celebrate the Moon landing than to gather your family around the couch and relive the experience?

In addition to the moon rocks, visitors to the Science Museum can also see an IMAX movie, "Apollo 11: First Steps Edition", featuring film not seen in almost 50 years after it was stored in vaults at NASA since the 1970s.

"TIME has always been at the forefront of visual storytelling".

Landing on the Moon is the first piece of content to feature on the app, produced in partnership with the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and sponsored by Jimmy Dean.

White House officials Dwight Chapin, Larry Higby and John Price, who were with Nixon the night he made the call to the moon, will speak at the presentation which will also include a special appearance by Alex Eisenhower, a grandson of Nixon and a great-grandson of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The TIME Immersive app and the mobile web AR experience (built on Amazon Sumerian) were developed by Trigger.
