Will Andrew Cashner deal lead to flurry of trade activity?

Andrew Cashner

Boston acquired Andrew Cashner and cash considerations from the Orioles in exchange for minor league infielder Noelberth Romero and minor league outfielder Elio Prado, the team announced Saturday. Cashner is 9-3 with a 3.83 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP this season with the last-place Orioles.

But does this mean the team is done dealing? Prado's upside is as a center fielder with power and speed, but there are many years and many levels to master before he reaches that ceiling.

The 32-year-old Cashner goes from the rebuilding Orioles to the defending World Series champion Red Sox, who are striving to get back into the post-season after getting off to a poor start. Like many young DSL players, a lot of his offensive potential will depend on how he fills out over the next half decade, but he has a smooth righthanded swing. He has a lifetime record of 55-82 with a 4.00 ERA.

Cashner now will call Fenway Park home. I know a couple of our (relievers) worked a lot before the break. "I think it will be really cool".

The Boston Red Sox were reportedly on the hunt for another arm to add to their rotation after learning Nathan Eovaldi wouldn't be back as soon as they expected. "It's such a rich history with baseball there". David Ortiz has been one of my favourite players growing up. "Excited to join the club and excited to be a part of the pennant race. They're still the champions from previous year, so it will be fun to help them get to where they want to go". As far as what we like, he's been throwing the ball well.as well as he ever has.

"Definitely gives us an improvement in that fifth spot, where we scuffled for such a long time this year. We think he makes us better". The right-hander has had a strong campaign considering how much the Orioles have lagged behind the rest of the league this season. Cashner ended up settling for a two-year, $16 million deal with the Orioles. Baltimore also agreed to make contingent payments on some of Cashner's performance bonuses if he should achieve them. He runs well enough to potentially stay in center field and has a more advanced batting eye than the average teenager in the Dominican Summer League. He has three home runs and 26 RBIs, so far in 2019.
