Woman Banned For Life For Trying to Open Airplane Doors Mid-Air

U.K. airline bills unruly passenger $106,000 for ‘dangerous behaviour’

U.K. airline bills unruly passenger $106,000 for ‘dangerous behaviour’

In an explanation posted on its website, Jet2 stated 25-year-old Chloe Haines had tried to open the door of an airplane midway between London's Stansted Airport and Dalaman in Turkey.

It had to be escorted by two RAF Typhoon fighter planes, because of her behavior, the airline alleged.

An unruly passenger has been billed $105,000 after her "extremely disruptive behavior" caused a flight to be diverted with a military escort. "Now she must realize the consequences of their actions, and we will strive to compensate the expenses suffered by us as a result of the redirection of the flight", said Steve hipi, CEO of Jet2.

Cabin crew and passengers worked together to restrain her as the flight to Turkey made back for Stansted, where she was arrested and charged with assault and endangering an aircraft.

In addition to the bill, which Jet2 said accounted for costs incurred in diverting the flight, Haines has been banned from the carrier for life.

She was released on bail until the end of July, police added.

Ben Stokes nominated for ‘New Zealander of the Year’ Award
The match though had its share of ups and downs as the momentum swung from one side to another. It might seem weird at first, as Stokes wasn't playing for the Kiwis, but for England.

However, Thomas Budd, a lecturer in airport management at Cranfield University in England called the airline's response as "unusual".

"To my knowledge, it is rare for an airline to pursue the passenger in this way and to do so publicly", Budd observed.

Sarah Stewart, an aviation lawyer in London, said that there had been a sharp increase in disruptive behaviour on planes.

Stewart said offenders face large fines, lifetime bans, and in some cases imprisonment as well.

"The behavior of Ms. Haynes was one of the most serious violations of passenger conduct, with which we were faced".

Haines could not be reached for comment.
