Amazon Continues Investments in Renewable Energy

One is located in Cork, Ireland and the other in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. It says it will produce 45 megawatts of renewable energy capacity.

Amazon will offtake 100pc of the energy from the project, which will be online in September 2020.

Speaking about the two projects, the company's director of sustainability, Kara Hurst, said: "Playing a significant role in helping to reduce the sources of human-induced climate change is an important commitment for Amazon". "Major investments in renewable energy are a critical step toward addressing our carbon footprint globally".

The investment was welcomed by the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Richard Bruton, who said that industry leadership was key to achieving Ireland's renewable energy targets.

"Amazon's new solar farm in Virginia will create jobs and economic development in rural Virginia, and will continue to build upon our role as a leading state for renewable energy in the USA".

Ironically, the Patriots are the very team Meredith thought had drafted him via a prank call during the 2015 NFL Draft. Receiver Cameron Meredith visited with the New England Patriots this week, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

"Top companies are increasingly investing in clean, reliable solar energy because it makes economic sense", Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the SEIA, said.

The second Irish Amazon Wind Farm is expected to supply 23.2 megawatts (MW) of renewable capacity and generate 68,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of eco-friendly energy per year.

The farm will have 45MW of renewable capacity and will generate 100,000MWh every year. This solar energy project entering into the picture in Pittsylvania County will set the stage for a cleaner and safer environment, along with increased number of jobs for the overall community. The projects undertaken by Amazon has been lauded by a majority of the population.

Amazon is the second largest corporate solar producer in the United States with nearly 330MW of solar installed nationwide, according to a report published by the Solar Energy Industries Association in late June.
