BTS is taking some much-deserved time off. The band's management company, Big Hit Entertainment, announced in a statement on Twitter that members RM, Jungkook, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin and V would be taking "an official and extended period of rest and relaxation" and would not be performing.

The group's popularity has generated huge profits for Big Hit Entertainment, which is even collaborating with Barbie maker Mattel for BTS dolls.

Their agency Big Hit Entertainment said the seven members would be undergoing a "period of rest and relaxation".

The break kicked off the same day following the band's performance at the 2019 Lotte Duty Free Family Concert earlier in the day.

"BTS will return refreshed and recharged to return all the love you have and continue to show them", the statement concluded.

It would also be a time for them to "enjoy their daily lives as normal 20-something young men", the agency said in a midnight statement.

Russia, after protests, tells Google not to advertise "illegal" events
The determined opposition to some candidates being kept out of the Moscow election appears to have unsettled Russian authorities. Thousands have also been arrested over the past fortnight at what the government considers unsanctioned political rallies.

During this time, the members will rest and recharge in their own personal ways.

The BTS fans, for the most part, were understanding of the band's need to take a break, responding with tweets of support, with some using the hashtag #RestWellBTS.

BTS - or Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates as Bulletproof Boy Scouts - have gained a massive global following in recent years, becoming the first K-pop group to top charts in the U.S. and Britain with a string of sold-out shows in Los Angeles, Paris and London's Wembley Stadium. Here's to the guys living it up and taking some time for themselves now, however long this rest period may last for them!

Fans don't believe the comparison to One Direction is the same, with one Twitter user noting: "can y'all stop compare bts and 1d we all knew 1d were gonna break up when zayn left it was honestly common sense". Enjoy it while you got it, fellas! Rumors had been floating around for a few weeks here, but now it's official...

Locally, BTS scored their very first #1 in Australia with their EP Map of The Soul: Persona back in April.
