De'Aaron Fox (5) of the Sacramento Kings brings the ball up against the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on March 11, 2019.

The news comes just a day after U.S. coach Gregg Popovich said that 14 players - including Fox - would travel to Australia on Saturday for three pre-tournament games. Windhorst called it a "surprising move".

His departure, which was not explained by team officials, leaves the Americans one player over the 12-man limit as they prepare for the global showdown in China, where they hope to win a third consecutive crown. Kings forward Marvin Bagley III withdrew last weekend following the team's minicamp in Las Vegas.

Despite his growing success and nearly certain spot on Team USA, Yahoo Sports reported that Fox only played six minutes during Team USA's friendly against Spain on Friday, which was the lowest total of any US player who saw the court.

Tony Jones, a sports writer with The Athletic wrote in a tweet that multiple sources have reported "that De'Aaron Fox and Donovan Mitchell have been standouts in the first two days of Team USA training camp". Both players impressed and were quickly moved into the pool of candidates for the national team.

Cantlay had a 15-foot birdie putt, and a two-shot swing would have cut the lead to one. "The birdie on 11 was huge", Thomas said. Thomas then helped out by hitting his second to the par-5 10th under a tree, hitting left-handed to get it out and making bogey.

The National Team did drop a shortened scrimmage only open to media members this week against the G-League Select Team in Los Angeles.

Fox was a strong candidate to make the roster after his impressive performances in practices and scrimmages.

The Kings selected Fox out of Kentucky with the fifth pick in the 2017 National Basketball Association draft. He was a finalist for the NBA's Most Improved Player Award in 2018-19, averaging 17.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game.

Fox, 21, is one of the NBA's rising stars and had an impressive sophomore campaign a year ago.
