Erick, Flossie get closer to Hawaii with threats of high surf

THURSDAY AUG. 1 2019

As of Tuesday morning, Erick was making its way towards Hawaii with winds well over 100 miles per hour.

As both storms strengthen, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says it will monitor them via satellite.

Back-to-back hurricanes churned in the eastern Pacific on Wednesday towards Hawaii, with one set to lose punch when it reaches the USA archipelago state even as its mate gains might. Current tracking has the heart of the storm passing along the south side of the island chain, possible sparing Hawaii from the heaviest wind and rainfall.

Tropical Storm Erick is strengthening into a hurricane as it moves towards Hawaii.

They said: "At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the centre of Hurricane Erick was located near latitude 12.7 North, longitude 140.0 West". This has resulted in Erick being identified as a Category 3 hurricane by Wednesday morning as it continues moving west.

Phillies acquire Corey Dickerson from Pirates
Assuming he is fully healthy, Dickerson could start almost every day for the Phillies in left field for the rest of this season. The Phillies will be Dickerson's fourth major-league team as he previously played for Colorado and Tampa Bay.

"Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 miles per hour (120 km/h) with higher gusts". The hurricane is moving west northwest near 15mph (24kph) and is expected to continue on this path until Friday.

Hurricane Erick, the larger of the storms, is not expected to make landfall but parts of Hawaii could see increased wind gusts and rain as Erick slides just south of the Big Island on Thursday.

It is far too early to tell what ― if any ― impact Hurricane Flossie will have on Hawaii, though several forecast models are in agreement that its track brings it close to the state.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu said as Erick makes its way past Hawaii, it will stir up storm conditions. "A wet weather pattern for sure".
