Lawsuit claims "unlawful retaliation" for McCabe's "refusal to pledge allegiance" to Trump.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe sued the Justice Department and the FBI Thursday over his dismissal from the bureau previous year, arguing that the agencies bowed to political pressure from President Trump.

It says the government sped up disciplinary proceedings so McCabe could be fired ahead of his planned retirement and without receiving full benefits.

Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation spokeswomen declined to comment.

McCabe, who worked for the FBI for two decades and was a senior leader in 2016 through 2018, including after FBI Director James Comey's firing and the early days of the Mueller investigation, had become a target of Trump's heckling on Twitter.

McCabe's lawsuit seeks his full law enforcement pension and all other benefits, privileges and rights now being withheld by the administration after he was dismissed in 2018, just before he would have been set to receive these benefits on his 50th birthday. Terry McAuliffe-a former Clinton campaign bundler and business partner of Hillary Clinton's brother-even as Andrew McCabe was supposed to be overseeing an investigation into Clinton.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is claiming his termination was politically motivated.

Comey also said that the process had been infected with "corrosive doubt" because of Trump's attacks on McCabe in the past.

The building was damaged but no-one was injured in the incident early on Saturday, which took place just outside the city centre. On Tuesday, there was a powerful explosion outside the national tax agency, in what the authorities say was a deliberate attack.

"Trump's purge targeted Plaintiff in particular because Trump had already decided during the 2016 US presidential campaign that Plaintiff was his partisan enemy by virtue of Plaintiff's marriage", the lawsuit said. Wray refused, saying he would not allow personnel decisions to be politicized.

He was dismissed hours before his retirement date following a report from the Justice Department's inspector general that concluded he improperly disclosed information to the media and lacked candor in interviews with federal investigators.

McCabe later said he'd opened the obstruction and counter-intelligence probes of potential Trump ties to Russian Federation after Comey, his boss, had been fired in May 2017.

The watchdog office referred the matter to the US Attorney's Office in Washington, which has been investigating.

McCabe accuses Trump of threatening several top brass of the Justice Department - from former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, to inspector general Michael Horowitz, to then-attorney general Jeff Sessions - as a way to "induce their compliance with Trump's desires", the lawsuit says.

Ex-FBI agent Peter Strzok, another "Russiagate" investigator, filed his own lawsuit on Tuesday, alleging the Bureau violated his free speech and privacy rights by publishing anti-Trump text messages he and a Bureau lawyer he was having an extramarital affair with had exchanged using official cell phones.
