Gasly has struggled against team-mate Max Verstappen in his first year with Red Bull after his own promotion from Toro Rosso at the end of the '18 season as Daniel Ricciardo's successor.

Red Bull Racing has announced its decision to promote Formula 1 rookie Alexander Albon from junior side Scuderia Toro Rosso for the Belgian Grand Prix, with Pierre Gasly going the other direction.

The erratic condition of the race gave the team plenty of practice, as each of their drivers made four or more tire changes over the course of the 64-lap race-driver Max Verstappen made five, while teammate Gasly stopped four times.

Gasly is now sixth in the Formula One drivers' standings, three places and 118 points behind Verstappen.

A team statement read: "Red Bull are in the unique position of having four talented Formula One drivers under contract who can be rotated between the team and Toro Rosso".

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner did not hide his disappointment at Gasly's performance, saying a vehicle that showed race-winning pace should not be trapped in midfield fights.

Investigators said that they found one smoke detector inside the attic of the three-story home. He said the blaze appeared to have started in the living room area on the first floor.

"The start wasn't great, the first lap wasn't great and we shouldn't be racing Saubers (the Alfa Romeo cars) and McLarens", he said.

Horner said to Motorsport.com: "Lewis has close to a three-race advantage with nine races to go, so he would have to not turn up for three races".

The Milton Keynes-based group were rewarded with the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award for the second race in a row, and snatched the current top ranking from Williams and Ferrari.

His demotion means Toro Rosso now have two drivers rejected by Red Bull, with Russian Daniil Kvyat also promoted and demoted and then dropped entirely before being given a second chance.

Asked at what point Red Bull may have to do something if Gasly does not improve, Horner said: "Our intention is to leave him in the auto until the end of the year".

Albon has got himself noticed this season with strong performances.
