Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was among the members of Congress to weigh in on Epstein, who was found dead by apparent hanging in his lower Manhattan jail cell early Saturday.

No foul play is suspected in Epstein's death, a federal official told CNN.

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman described in his statement that Epstein's death was "disturbing" while acknowledging that his death would present "another hurdle to giving Epstein's many victims their day in Court".

Prosecutors said a search of his townhouse, conducted under a warrant, uncovered evidence of hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of nude photographs of "what appeared to be underage girls", including some photos cataloged on compact discs and kept in a locked safe.

"Mr. Epstein's death raises serious questions that must be answered", Barr said. "Because the public has a right to know, I'm calling for a congressional investigation".

These include Bill Clinton, George Stephanopoulos, Donald Trump, Katie Couric, and Woody Allen.

News Host Joe Scarborough is the target of critics after posting conspiracy-driven tweets on Saturday in the wake of Manhattan financier Jeffrey Epstein's apparent suicide.

One such lawsuit could be filed as soon as Wednesday by a woman who alleges Epstein raped her when she was 15.

USA prosecutors said Epstein used his wealth and power to sexually abuse dozens of young girls for years at his homes, paying them hundreds of dollars in cash for each encounter and hundreds more if they brought in more victims.

Epstein, the financier who has always been dogged by accusations of sexual abuse of girls and was able to cultivate a stream of high profile friends despite his lurid lifestyle, killed himself in his Manhattan jail cell, official said on Saturday.

Attorneys for Epstein accusers on Saturday held out hope that federal prosecutors will pursue charges against associates who allegedly facilitated his crimes over the years.

Epstein was previously found injured in his cell on July 24.

Epstein's death ends the criminal case, said Randall Jackson, a litigation attorney with Willkie Farr & Gallagher and former federal prosecutor in NY.

Reports of Epstein's death immediately raised eyebrows on social media, sparking wild speculation about how a high-profile person and known suicide risk could take his own life in prison. None of them was mentioned in the indictment against Epstein.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating Epstein's time spent in work release under the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

"But you could also expect there could be actions against other prominent individuals filed as lawyers pore through discovery materials that have not been unsealed by the courts and as investigations into Epstein's background continue". But Bureau of Prisons protocol (pdf) says that inmates should be removed from the Special Housing Unit if they exhibit "significant potential for suicide" and "placed on suicide watch".

Lawyer Brad Edwards, who has represented other Epstein accusers, said Epstein's death had seen him avoid being held responsible.
